Bangladesh fast-bowler Rubel Hossain has been cleared of rape charges filed by his girlfriend cum actress Naznin Akhtar last December.
A Dhaka Court on May 20 declared Rubel innocent as there was no proof of the charges against him. Judge Tanjina Ismail of the Fifth Special Tribunal for prevention of women and children repression rejected Akhtar’s no-confidence petition that she had filed on May 17 against the probe report submitted by the police, and passed the order. Her lawyer, Tuhin Hawlader, told that they would appeal against the order in the High Court.
Just before the ICC World Cup 2015, Naznin lodged a complaint against Rubel of “rape” and “false promise of marriage” that landed him in jail and put a question mark over his participation in World Cup. Later, Rubel was granted bail till the end of the World Cup as it was a matter of “national interest” as he is one of the best bowlers in Bangladesh line-up. (Read the full story HERE)
