Ahead of the upcoming five-match One-Day International series against India, Australia’s middle-order batsman Travis Head has insisted the visitors are not a one-man team.

“We have got David (Warner) and Steve (Smith) who are in great touch. (Marcus) Stoinis batted really well and James Faulkner has done that before. We don’t rely on one person,” said Head after a long training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday (September 14).

Australia has already given an impression of Head’s comment in the practice tie against Board President’s XI where they thrashed the home side by 103 runs.

Batting first, the reigning world champions posted a daunting 347 for seven with four batsmen – David Warner, Steve Smith, Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis scoring half-centuries. After batsmen’s impressive show, it was the bowlers’ turn, and they did a recommendable job, bowling the home side for only 244 with Ashton Agar starring with the ball by picking up four for 44.

Head, who scored 65 in the warm-up tie, further said he is excited to play in the upcoming series. Stand-in head coach David Saker has made it clear that Head would bat at number four and the left-handed batsman is ready to pounce on the opportunity.

“I’m excited by it. Since I have come to the side, I feel confident. It was nice to get some time in the middle the other day,” said Head.

“Once it is set up from the opening batters, hopefully, me and Glenn (Maxwell) can do it at the back-end of the innings. We complement each other in the side,” he added.

With the pitches being in India slow and flat, Head’s spin can be handy for the visitors, and he is making sure to get ready for that.
