Steven Gerrard will make his 710th and final appearance for Liverpool when he leads out his team against Stoke City today. He’ll say a final goodbye today to the Liverpool supporteres after spending 27 years at the club, making more than 700 appearances, scoring 185 goals and winning 10 trophies at Anfield.

Liverpool supporters will be hoping for one last moment of magic from their long serving captain at the Britannia Stadium. Liverpool supporters gave Gerrard a perfect sending off last week at Anfield when Liverpool played Crystal Palace.

Steven Gerrard to play his last game for Liverpool 1

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes for Gerrard it will be a huge moment of relief, after an emotional few weeks.

“He’ll be very able,” said the Reds boss.

“I’m sure for Steven it’s been a huge relief. Leading into your last game at Anfield, which has been his home for 17 years, there was probably a whole load of emotion.

“Unfortunately our performance level wasn’t what we expected (they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace) but I think the crowd and the supporters recognised the moment and gave him a great send-off.

“So I’m sure for him it’s a huge sigh of relief and he has worked well this week concentrating on Sunday’s game.”

There is little doubt Anfield will miss their favourite son, and the Liverpool management face an impossible job to replace the outgoing skipper. Gerrard is very likely to finish the season as Liverpool’s top goal scorer.
