England international Glen Johnson today announced he’ll be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. It was widely expected Liverpool won’t offer Johnson a new contract as he was considerably high wages, and his performances have been poor to say the least.

Johnson joined Liverpool in 2009 for a fee believed to be around £17.5 million, and has made 200 appearances for the Anfield club. During his stay at Anfield, Glen Johnson won the Capital One Cup under manager Kenny Dalglish and came close to winning the FA Cup and the league title last year.

It is believed AS Roma are leading the race to sign Glen Johnson on a free transfer. Liverpool are currently short on options to replace Glen Johnson in the starting team, with Jon Flanagan out till December and Javi Manquillo( on loan from Atletico Madrid) looks like the only option they have.
