Badminton ace P V Sindhu wrote her name in the history books with her fabulous win over world champion Nozomi Okuhara to lift the Korea Open Super Series in Seoul on Sunday. The intense game went in favor of Sindhu with the scoreline reading 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 in the contest that lasted for an hour and 23 minutes.
This win is special for the 22-year-old in more than a couple of ways as it not only sweet revenge of her heart-wrenching World Championship final loss to the Japanese at Glasgow last month but also made her the first Indian woman ever to win the Korean Super Series.
This title win is also Sindhu’s third super series title of her career and also helped her make it 4-4 regarding head-to-head record against Okuhara.
The World no. 4 now already has the 2016 China Super Series Premier and India Open Super Series and Syed Modi Grand Prix Goldin her kitty.
The burden of expectation was high on Sindhu after she won the title clash with Okuhara for the second time in little over three weeks. The two had earlier fought for an hour and 50 minutes in what was regarded as one of the greatest women’s singles matches in the World Championships final last month.
Sindhu ended up on the losing side and also drew a bit of criticism. A leading newspaper also tagged her as a choker. However, with this triumph, the naysayers probably deserves some rest.
