Vijay played the first game of the tournament for India Green where he shone with the ball. He scalped a total of five wickets in the game but failed to contribute with the bat, as he could just manage 17 runs in two innings. Though, he was the star with the ball and emerged out as the highest wicket-taker for his side.
Vijay’s exclusion is a huge loss for the team as the experienced man could change the game at any point with the bat, but now they will be going without their star player.

His exclusion from the tournament has though come as a surprise, as Vijay was making his comeback to competitive cricket after being out of action for around five months. He missed the IPL due to a wrist injury and returned to the team for the Sri Lanka tour. However, a week before the start of the series, he withdrew from the series due to pain in the wrist.

Vijay played four TNPL games and was selected in the Duleep Trophy squad. With him missing the last game, he would eye the upcoming Ranji season, as Indian team is set to play Sri Lanka in a Test series later this year and the form in which KL Rahu and Shikhar Dhawan are, Vijay might have to warm the bench as a reserve opener. It would also mean that Abhinav Mukund will get dropped from the side.
The Ranji Trophy season will start on October 6. Meanwhile, India Blue and India Green will take on each other in the last league game From September 19 to 22.
