Not long ago, Manchester United were the odds on favorite side to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan. The German was seen as the ideal midfield solution to Louis Van Gaal’s philosophy.
However, in an exclusive interview with Dailymail Gundogan has revealed the news of holding transfer talks with European giants Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Gundogan did not single out the club he will be signing for, but confirmed his desires to leave Dortmund next season.
Addressing the link ups with Barcelona and Bayern, Gundogan said: “We are holding talks yes, but no decision has been made. I can’t say more than that on this.
“I’ll leave [my Dortmund future] open as to whether they continue with or without me.”
“BVB are a great team a really good Coach is coming. I don’t know how the team will look next season.”
“The challenge will be to get the great potential of this team back on the pitch. We managed to do that too little during the last year.”
“In some ways we’re glad this difficult season is over now.”
These words signal a clear intention of the player joining either Bayern or Barcelona in the summer. Gundogan’s contract expires in 2016 and a move now will command a greater fee to Dortmund and their rebuilding job.
