One of the most reliable batsman for India in various situations and conditions, Rahul Dravid has been a saviour for the Indian cricket team on more than one occasion. He obtained more than a celebrity status with his cricketing career and the whole world recognised him and his talent.
Dravid is also known as one of the most down to earth persons with such status one will ever meet. He has never shown any signs of attitude or ego and has always put the team before his personal gains. These characteristics were highlighted in a small but sad incident reported by an anonymous writer on one of the websites.
The writer explained that he had a friend who loved cricket more than anything else and was a huge fan of Rahul Dravid. He was so into him that he enacted Dravid’s playing style just to get some peace of mind. But he had a short span of life as he was suffering from a deadly form of cancer.
The writer went on to explain that his friend was hospitalized and was taking treatment for blood cancer. One of his last wishes was to talk to the wall of Indian cricket. He explained that his friends tried all possible ways to get in contact with Dravid.
After a few days, one of their friends got a call from Veejeta, Dravid’s wife. The story of the ill friend touched her and the effort by the friends reaped benefits as she expressed Dravid’s desire to talk through a Skype call. Even though the friends were skeptic of the call, Dravid did make the call and spoke to the ill friend for almost an hour.
He also spoke to his family and a host of doctors and made sure that the best was being done for the friend. He also apologized for not being able to meet them in person. This conversation gave a lot of motivation to all the people and bought a huge smile on the friends face.
Though he passed away after fighting against cancer, the gesture from Dravid made the last few days of his life happier. The conversation is now available on Youtube for normal viewing. The friends who went through this said that they still remember this incident when they need some courage.
Such a nice gesture from such a popular star shows that a bit of humanity always has space even in a busy popular life.
