Team India came into the 3rd ODI as firm favourites and a win would ensure a series victory for them with two more matches still left. After resounding victories in the first two ODI’s, the Men in Blue was eager to continue their winning run. For the first time in the series, Aussie skipper Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bat. It was a sensible move by Smith especially after losing the first two games while chasing.
Hilton Cartwright who had a horrendous outing in the first two matches made way for Aaron Finch who was out of the national team for a long time now. The opening duo began well and for the first time in the series, the Aussie began in a positive fashion. Warner played some gorgeous shots while Finch was the silent partner who also played a couple of good shots.
Just when Warner was looking set for a big score, he was undone by a brilliant fast off-break by Hardik Pandya which turned after pitching. Pandya who has improved his bowling by leaps and bounds changed the seam of the delivery at the very last moment and the ball came out of his hand perfectly.
Warner played for the straight ball but it gripped sharply and took the top of the middle and stump of Warner. It was a sensational sight for the newest all-rounder of the Indian team. Meanwhile, by the look of things, the pitch at the Holkar Stadium in Indore looks like a batting paradise and Australia would be looking to get at least somewhere near 300 or even beyond that.
We haven’t seen a 300+ score in the series so far as the bowlers have been brilliant from either side. Even in the previous match, it was an exceptional bowling performance by India which ensured they successfully defended a below-par score of 252 in the 2nd ODI at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.’
