Manish Pandey may be having an underwhelming series so far but he surely leaving no stone unturned as far as making an impact on the field is concerned.
The Karnataka star, arguably one of the most talented batsmen in the country, pulled off an eyebrow-raising catching effort to dismiss Peter Handscomb and push Australia deeper into trouble.
After a smooth start, led by the efforts of centurion Aaron Finch and skipper Steve Smith, Australia began losing it steam as Indian bowlers began to make inroads by making the Australia middle order to fail again.
Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head’s departure after the start of the final ten overs was a huge blow, and the hope rested on Peter Handscomb to add some crucial runs to the scoreboard. However, the right-hander could not fulfil the responsibility and gave away his wicket after failing to connect a wild slog properly.
In the 48th over against Bumrah, Handscomb, who had managed just three off seven deliveries, charged down the pitch to give himself room to go over the off-side. It was an to break free from the shackles, but unfortunately, it ended up in a disaster from him as a slower delivery deceived him.
He went through the loft and initially the ball seemed to be going over long-off. But, that ‘s where the climax took place as Pandey came into the frame and took an incredible catch in a display of sound judgment and athleticism.
Pandey timed his jump to perfection and got hold of the ball but the momentum dragged him backwards, Sensing that he was going to cross the boundary ropes, he threw the ball up and went over the line, to complete the catch. It was an excellent attempt.
