Stuart Broad might not have had an extraordinary World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, but he is hell bent on redeeming himself in the shorter format. Broad had a fine Test series against New Zealand and had 13 scalps to his name in the 2 match series. In an interview, the lanky pacer admitted that despite being in poor form and in a transition phase, he still is among the best bowlers in white clothing. Broad, who soon turns 29, also said that he aims to represent his nation in the 2019 World Cup as England will be hosting the grand event.
“I absolutely want to play in the World Cup. I’m only 28,” he told the Nottingham Post. “The next World Cup is four years down the line and in England. I want to be a part of that and feel I can be a part of that. “I still feel I’m one of the best white ball bowlers in England but only time will tell if I’m involved in four years.”
Broad was rested for the ODI series against New Zealand along with fellow seamer James Anderson. This was done in order to ensure that the two are fresh for the all important Ashes, which begins next month. Broad also spoke about the decision to rest him from the ODI’s against New Zealand.
“I think the theory of me not playing in these next one day games is right,” he said. “We’ve got 16 Tests in the next year. Resting me and Jimmy Anderson to make sure we are fit for important Tests makes sense,” said Broad.
