Manchester United have been dealt severe blow in their hopes of keeping David De Gea for another season at Old Trafford after it was revealed earlier today that Iker Casillas has decided to quit in his long stay with Real Madrid.
As per the reports, Casillas has decided to leave Real Madrid immediately allowing De Gea to join Bernabeu as early as next week.
Casillas joined Real Madrid when he was 9-year old but with Kyler Navas present in the squad and De Gea’s imminent arrival at Bernabeu has left Casillas searching for a new club next season.
By announcing his exit news, Casillas has put the entire European football on alert as Liverpool, Arsenal and Besikats all looking for a better stopper. Casillas’ place in the side has come under fire after some high-profile errors for the club.
This news has further ensured De Gea’s move to Madrid after AS reported the story of De Gea becoming a Galactico by next week.
According to Spanish media outlet TVE (as reported on AS), De Gea’s deal is all but done with only an official statement pending by the Spanish club.
Source close to United have a reason to believe that the Old Trafford club and De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes is insisting for Madrid to include Karim Benzema in the deal but Florentino Perez has refused the idea up front.
Manchester United now have a big task of filling De Gea’s void as Petr Cech, Hugo Lloris and Fernando Muslera are being readied for a nigh-profile transfer to Old Trafford next season.
