Haroon Lorgat will no longer serve as Cricket South Africa’s chief executive. According to the people with knowledge of the situation, Lorgat has handed his phone and laptop on Thursday morning. This probably brings an end to the souring relationship between the Lorgat and CSA Board.
Lorgat was under pressure due to his inability to secure a broadcast rights partner for the Global T20 tournament which is due to get underway in November. The competition will commence in just a matter of 5 weeks, but broadcast deals remain unconfirmed in India as well as South Africa. This has put the profitability of the entire tournament in doubt.
It is also understood that CSA was unhappy with Lorgat’s habit of spending too much for the preparation of the T20 League. Lorgat was facing heat for costing the board massive amounts due to large bills on first-class travel and corporate events.
According to CSA’s annual report last month. 4.5 million Rands had already been spent in organising the tournament.
“For obvious reasons I can’t go into the details but it is true that the two parties have reached a separation agreement which is being taken care of by legal people and an announcement will be made in the coming days‚” the insider said TimesLIVE, a South Africa based publication.
