For the sixth time in their careers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma got involved in an on-field goof up which resulted in a runout, and surprisingly, it was Rohit Sharma who got out this time, and not captain Kohli. On the previous two occasions, it was Kohli was caught short of his crease.
The incident happened in the 23rd over of the game when Kohli opened the face of the towards backwards point and ran straight away. However, an acrobatic effort from Steven Smith saw him grabbing the ball and throwing it away towards fielders.
Meanwhile, Kohli had asked Rohit to run for single but instructed to turn him away. Till then, Rohit had reached to the batsman’s end, and at one point of time, both the batsmen were seen dragging their bats in one frame.
It was Rohit, who without even watching his captain, decided to sacrifice his wicket, as he ran towards another end, but the walk was a mere formality, and ultimately, he had to walk down the ground towards the pavilion.
It was a bizarre way to get out, as it looked like Kohli didn’t see the ball till it passed the fielder and Rohit paid the price for it. This runout, also, again exposed the lack of communication between the two as this was the sixth occasion when these two involved in this sort of incident. Out of six, Kohli got caught short of four times, whereas, Rohit Sharma’s number goes to two.
