South Africa vs. Bangladesh 2017: Our Bowling Was Exceptional - Faf Du Plessis 1

On the fifth day, Bangladesh’s survival was always going to be a difficult task against South African bowling line-up. However, the visitors were left in absolutely no position to put up a fight as they capitulated against some disciplined bowling from the Proteas. Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada were just too lethal for Bangladesh.

Having lost three wickets already by the end of day four, it was a matter of survival for Bangladesh on the final grinding day. All hopes of a stubborn resistance came down to a crashing end as the Mushfiqur Rahim led outfit was bowled out for 90 and ended up handing South Africa a victory by 333 runs.

Post the huge win; skipper Faf du Plessis mentioned that his bowlers were simply exceptional.

“Very happy,” said du Plessis. “Over the four-five days, we were consistent. Bowlers were exceptional. Obviously, we were disappointed with the conditions. In these conditions, we were going to get wickets either through spin or reverse swing. But the guys did well. We are not complaining that it’s an early finish.”

Du Plessis added that it was unfortunate for Morne Morkel to miss the remaining games due to an injury he sustained.

“Morne will be disappointed. He has been bowling well. He has reached that level now. To lose another key member is very disappointing. But that gives other guys an opportunity. Hopefully, the wicket will be a bit better for the next Test with some grass. Happy with the debutant as well,” Faf concluded.
