In modern day cricket the shorter format of cricket that is T-20 has improved the spinner’s ability. The spinners anticipate what the batsmen are trying to do and bowl according to field. The spinner’s bowl in the powerplay overs. Spinners must know how to defend and attack. The spinners must put pressure on the batsmen by bowling dot balls and force the batsmen to make the mistakes. It is important that the spinners must have variations in pace and speed.

These days T-20 has helped the spinners to improve as a bowler. Today we have good quality spinners who can bowl well like Ashwin, Sunil Narine. In the Indian Premier League the spinners have done a great job by bowling superb line and length. T-20 cricket has made the spinners evolve as a bowler as they have to bowl four over’s, the spinners must know their limitations and if the batsmen are going behind him, then the spinners must know  how to comeback and pick the wickets. The pitches help the batsmen a lot these days and with short boundaries the spinners have to bowl according to field. In the last 5 to six years the spinners have dominated T-20 cricket.

T-20 cricket has helped the spinners to take wickets in the early overs. In the ICC rankings for T-20 bowlers the top 5 bowlers are spinners. 2 bowlers are from West Indies, 1 each from India, Sri Lanka and South Africa. In the Indian Premier League spinners have dominated.

Spinners needs to have experience in tough situations and these days the captains ask the spinners to bowl in the death overs. In One day Internationals the spinners have improved their skills too with lot of bowling.

When the T-20 cricket came in 2005 spinners role was less. Dainel Vettori the coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore was impressed with Yuzvendra Chahal and many other spinners. The spinners needs to have control to stop the run flow of the batsmen.
