Fathers, they are our first hero; our idol, our protector. We grow up to be like them. They show lesser emotions but care and love us more than we love ourselves. On the very eve of fathers day, here goes a list of remarkable father-son pairs who played the game of cricket and won the hearts of many around the globe:

Sunil Gavsakar and Rohan Gavaskar:

Stalwart Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar, made his debut in the year 1971 and played for India till 1987. He became the first ever person to make 10000 runs in test cricket and eventually went on adding many more records to his gloriuos cricketing career. His son Rohan played 11 ODIs in Indian colour and has been a promising middle order batsman. 

Colin Cowdrey, Chris Cowdrey and Fabian Cowdrey:

Their story became a history when Fabian Cowdrey joined Kent County Cricket Club as the Cowdrey’s became the first family to play for three generations for the club. Lord Colin Cowdrey, who played over 100 Test matches for England is the father of Chris Crowdey who also played for the country. His son Fabian now holds the record of being the youngest person ever to play at the pretigious venue of Lord’s.

Vijay and Sanjay Manjrekar:

Sanjay Manjrekar, the renowned commentator and former Indian player known for his technically correct style of batting is the son of legendary Indian cricketer Vijay Manjrekar. Vijay holds the record for scoring maximum runs (3208) without hitting a six. 

Peter Pollock and Shaun Pollock:

Cricket fanatics know quite well that Shaun Pollock, one of the finest all-round cricketers the world has ever seen, played 108 Tests and over 300 ODIs for South Africa. The lesser known fact is that his father Peter Pollock also represented the country for several occasions and became the Wisden cricketer of the year in 1966.

Walter Hadlee and Richard Hadlee:

Talking about greatest all-rounders and not mentioning the name of Sir Richard Hadlee is considered a crime; looking at his stupendous cricketing career. But not many know that his father Walter Hadlee also played for the New Zealand cricket team and captained it too.

Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi :

One of the finest captain India ever produced, tiger Pataudi made India win the first overseas Test series in New Zealand. His father, commonly known as senior Pataudi, has played Test cricket for both Engalnd and India.

Chris Broad-Stuart Broad:

For, one of the leading fast bowlers in the world today, Stuart Broad cricket is Blood. Father of Stuart, Chris Broad is a former England cricketer. While the son holds the record of second-highest ever Test score made by a number 9 (169 runs), the father is commonly known for the three centuries feat in the 86-87 Ashes. Senior Broad is now a match referee. 

Roger Binny and Stuart Binny:

Stuart Binny, shortlisted for the 15 member ICC CWC 2015 squad recently, is the son of India’s 1983 world cup bowling hero Roger Binny. The father was the first anglo-indian to play for the Indian cricket team and following his father, Stuart Binny also became a successful cricketer in IPL and now national team.

Geoff Marsh-Shaun Marsh& Mitchell Marsh:

The coach of Australi’s 1999 world cup winning team, Geoff has played 50 Test matches and more than 100 ODIs for australia. Both his sons Mitchell and Shaun play for Australia. Mitchell is the youngest player to represent his country in domestic ODIs (17 years).

Lala Amarnath, Surinder and Mohinder amarnath:

Independent India’s first captain, Lala Amarnath was also the one to score a Test century for India. His sons, both Surinder and Mohinder Amarnath followed his footsteps to join cricket. Surinder was an exceptional domestic talent and played 10 Tests and 3 ODIs for India while Mohinder the more famous of the siblings was Man of the match in famous 1983 World Cup final. The maestro became man of the series of 1983 world cup, India’s first trohpy in a multination tournament.
