Sri Lanka’s skipper Dinesh Chandimal has expressed his utter delight over their performance after managing to win the test series against Pakistan in UAE.
By managing to win both the Test games in the series, Sri Lanka became the first team ever to win a test series against Pakistan in UAE since the team moved their home base to Abu Dhabi.
The visitors managed to post an impressive 482 in their first innings after winning the toss. The lack of application from Pakistan batsmen in both the innings meant Sri Lanka won the game by 68 runs at the end, after posting a mere 96 in their second innings.
Speaking after their series win, Chandimal said:
“We are over the moon. This is a great achievement for us. Credit goes to the boys and the team management for all their practice methods. Also, want to credit the selectors for their backing. It was a tough series against India but we learnt a lot from that. I thought we executed really well in this series.
“(On the energy from SL this series) If you look at the guys, they are really committed and motivated, so the team spirit will come. (If there was any pressure today at the start) Last night, in the last session, it was difficult to bowl with the dew factor which didn’t help the spinners. But, we knew that today in the afternoon, it will grip better as we have quality spinners. Credit to the whole team as they did a great job throughout.”
Sri Lanka would be thoroughly relived after their triumph as they are in a period of transition and lost badly to India at home. The result also means Pakistan had lost their first home series since 2007 when they lost to South Africa.
