Rajvardhan Singh Rathore, Sports Minister on Wednesday, convicted the stone-throwing incident on the Australian Cricket team bus and said that he had had a word with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal regarding the matter. It wasn’t a pleasant sight, and the Indian spectators must learn to get rid of the frustration after a loss because the Men in Blue has given us a lot to cherish in the recent past.
“Guwahati stone-throwing incident NOT reflective of our security measures. Aus team & FIFA are content w/those. India remains a graceful host,” Rathore was quoted as saying by India Today. The former shooter replaced Vijay Goel as the Sports Minister earlier in the year. “Have spoken to Sarbananda Sonowal ji about the Guwahati incident. Personal security of visiting athletes & teams is extremely important for us,” he further added.
Sonowal responded by saying that the investigations regarding the same are in full swing and the police have already got hold of two suspects. The incident happened after the completion of the 2nd T20I which the Australians won convincingly by eight wickets. The players and support staffs were travelling from the Busapara Stadium in Guwahati to the team hotel when a rock was hurled towards the team bus which pierced the window on the right side of the bus, Cricket Australia said on its website.
The board stated the fact that the rock was about the size of a cricket ball which ended up inside the bus.
“In a remarkable piece of good fortune, no one was sitting on the seat next to the window when it was broken,” CA’s report said. “While no one was injured, the Australian players were understandably shaken up by the incident,” the CA website said in its report.
Meanwhile, Australian opener Aaron Finch posted a photo of the broken window on his twitter handle with a caption, “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!”

Really unfortunate incident after a great game aimed to tarnish Guwahati's reputation as emerging sports hub. We strongly condemn it. (1/8)
