The final draw for the 2015 Wimbledon Championships has been announced today, with local hero Andy Murray facing a tough task of reaching the final match of the competition. He will have to go past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the 4th round, Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, and Roger Federer in the semifinals before a potential showdown with World Number 1 and reigning champion Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic has a more favourable draw, where he is going to start against Germany’s Phil Kohlschreiber (world rank 33). He is set to meet Stanislas Wawrinka in the semifinals, whom he also met and lost to in the French Open three weeks earlier.
In the Ladies’ singles, reigning champion Petra Kvitova will open against Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands, while 5-times champion Serena Williams and former champion Maria Sharapova are in the same half of the draw.
128 players compete is the singles’ events of the Wimbledon Championships, who are divided into two halves of 64. Each half is further divided into 4 sections 16 players each, distributed according to seedings assigned by the All England Lawn Tennis Club and the International Tennis Federation.
