Copa America 2015

Quarterfinal 3 (June 26, 2015)

Estadio Sausalito, Viña del Mar, Chile

Copa America 2015 Quarterfinal - Argentina 5-4(p) Colombia 1

David Ospina’s heroics was not enough for Colombia as they lost to Argentina in the Copa America quarterfinals. Argentina’s victory was justified by their on-field performance, they had 16 shots on goal, and Colombia had only 2. Old-boy Tevez got over his past demons as he stepped up to take the final spot-kick, which sent Argentina through to the semifinals.

The full time had three stories to tell, shot by Argentina, saved by Ospina, and someone got booked every 15 minutes, more or less. Argentina were everywhere on the pitch, and the Colombians just watched as their goalkeeper put up a Spartan display to keep the ball out of the net. The Albiceleste were visibly stressed as the game went on to penalty shootout.

The shootout took a dramatic turn for Argentina as Biglia and Rojo missed the fifth and sixth spotkicks. But Colombia let the chance to reach the semifinals slip away as they missed both their spotkicks when the shootout went to sudden death. Carlos Tevez stepped up to take Argentina’s seventh spotkick, and blasted it past Ospina. Argentina will now face Brazil or Paraguay in the 2nd semifinal of the Copa America.
