Ashley Young has agreed a new 3-year deal with Manchester United which will see the English winger earn a salary of £120,000-a-week.

Young has followed Phil Jones, who also agreed a new contract with the Old Trafford club. Jones agreed a new 4-year contract with club.

In a season filled with many disappointments for Louis Van Gaal, Ashley Young stood out as the most improved Manchester United player. Young was written off by the United fans under David Moyes and he looked certain to get a chop last season.

However, injuries to Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo presented Ashley Young with a chance to re-invent himself in a wing-back role. Young proved to be United’s biggest outlet of threat by bombing continuously from the left hand side.

Young’s impressive displays meant that he continued playing in the team as a winger despite Shaw and Rojo returning from their injuries.

What future lies ahead for Ashley Young?

Ashley Young has now signed a new 3-year deal at the club and with the arrival of Memphis Depay and Angel Di Maria’s inspired form during Copa America would present an even greater challenge for Young to hold on to his place in the side.

Van Gaal would ideally go with a 4-3-3 system with a combination of Di Maria and Depay on the wings. As per the skills and expected offering to the club, Di Maria and Depay would be the first choice for Van Gaal.

This would mean, Ashley Young would have to wait for his chances to come during the cup games or at later end of the matches. Young will always be an option for Van Gaal in a wing-back role.

All being said, Young will indeed be an important part for Manchester United during the 2015/16 season.
