As Professionalism is bound to play its imperative role in any of the modern-day sport, and hockey is subsequently no stranger to a country like India which saw its players making the sport-loving nation proud following the remarkable performances on the synthetic turf in Bangladesh.
The hockey players are supposed to focus hard which is further a promising narrative about the great determination and willpower, as athletes sweat it out to keep their respective flags high and such have had been done by India, the strong force to reckon in hockey.
In the final of Asia Cup 2017 in Bangladesh on super Sunday (October 22), India beat Malaysia 2-1 to clinch the third Asia Cup title and thus directly qualifies for the World Cup next year. Under the leadership of Manpreet Singh, India has shown the courage by playing attacking hockey to give a tough time to its different opposition in the coveted competition.
Following the early attack, India scored the first goal in the third minute of the first quarter of the play when Ramandeep Singh following the assist from SV Sunil.
While dictating the terms after first quarter finished with India leading by 1-0, the second quarter saw hapless Malaysia missed out on decent chances – to convert them into a goal or so.
However, in the 29th minute, it was fascinating Lalit Upadhyay, who scored for India which eventually put Malaysia on the back-foot, as second quarter completed with formidable India leading with two goals to nil.
As the third quarter saw the counter-attack from the Men in Orange, India was equally good at making things more challenging for Malaysia before third quarter wrapped without being a goal scored from both the sides.
However, Malaysia’s solitary goal came in 50th minute when Shahril Saabah scored a goal which was challenged by India, before losing out on the referral.
Interestingly, after ten years India won the title, as the forward in the form of Akashdeep Singh has played an integral role for India. In the dying minutes, Malaysia lost the review before the free-hit saw the hooter being blown, as Indian players rushed towards each other while jumping in joy – to bring glory to the country which eventually follows the sports like the religion in itself.
Concluding, India Hockey won its first Asia Cup title way back in 2003 at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia when they beat arch-rivals Pakistan 4-2. With this, cricketers have also congratulated the hockey team for their stellar show in the neighbouring country.
The Twitterati has further heaped praise on Indian Hockey Team for winning the much-anticipated competition which saw them being runner-ups for times so far.
