Former New Zealand skipper and arguably the best left-arm spinner of his generation, Daniel Vettori picked his All-Time XI with only two players from the current crop making the cut.
There were few surprising omissions, but the team which Vettori chose was a formidable one. The left-arm spinner who was the former skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL, and later became the coach picked Virat Kohli as the captain of the side.
Vettori has seen the upward rise of Kohli very closely at the Royal Challengers franchise. Kohli who became the RCB skipper replacing Vettori struck his 31st ODI ton on Sunday to go past the likes of Ricky Ponting. He is now just behind India’s legend Sachin Tendulkar who has scored 49 centuries.
Vettori gave his reasons for making Kohli the captain of the side which also consists of some exceptional players and many captaincy materials including Ricky Ponting.

“Virat Kohli, I have seen him up close for a long time now and nothing but impressed by the way he plays, the passion that he has for winning, I think, would pervade the whole team. I mean they would win anyway, but it would be nice to have him in charge,” the former left-arm orthodox spinner opined.

The other Indians in the team are Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Arguably the two of the greatest Indian cricketers of all time, these two players don’t need any introduction. Vettori stated that Dravid was the “hardest” batsman he bowled to.
“Dravid was the hardest batsman I ever bowled to. His ability to pick up length was amazing,” said Vettori.
Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni who has been a sensational captain and an ODI batsman failed to make the cut, while Jacques Kallis got picked as the 12th man. He resented the fact that it was “ridiculous” for him to name Kallis as the 12th man after being arguably the best all-rounder of his generation.
