Shahid Afridi has been a lively character weather on the field or off the cricket field. His dedication and commitment can never be questioned, and the Pathan gives it his 100% for his side. It is due to the sheer enthusiasm of Afridi on the field, that his team always remains in the hunt and within the game. The Pakistani legend was best known to simply massacre bowlers when he got going. In the later stages of his illustrious and colorful career, Afridi was handier with the ball.
Afridi bowled brisk leg spin and had foxed literally every batsman with his abilities. His tally of 395 ODI wickets is enough to justify that! Afridi was also the leading wicket taker of the 2011 World Cup as he had 21 scalps to his name. Being a wrist spinner, deceiving the batsman was there in Afridi’s DNA. Afridi had as many as 3-4 variations and different types of deliveries which he bowled in order to bamboozle the batsmen.
Apart from his regular leg break, his googlies were pretty handy as well. Then there was his off break, which he bowled like a full time off spinner. But the one unplayable delivery which Afridi had in his arsenal was the quicker one. Afridi rarely used the quicker one, but when he did, he simply mauled the batsman.
Recently, in a Caribbean Premier League game against Jamaica Tallahwahs, Afridi bowled a deadly yorker to Andre Russell at 125 km/hr! Well, 125 km/hr is usually the pace of a medium fast bowler! The ball was so accurately bowled that Russell seemed to have fought a war in order to negate it! The yorker had Russell down on the floor, as the ball was too quick for his liking. It was surely an entertaining sight to watch!
However, Afridi’s side, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots couldn’t defend their total of 160, as the Jamaicans chased it down with five balls to spare! But the game would surely be remembered for that killer yorker bowled by Shahid Khan Afridi!
Below is the video of that deadly yorker:
