Subir Ganguly – the man who asked for the removal of Sourav Ganguly as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) – has been ousted from the state association. As per Sourav Ganguly, Subir cannot continue the job because he has completed his nine years tenure with the state association,
“As per Supreme Court order, dated January 2, 2017, Subir’s continuance as an office bearer would be in breach of norms laid down by the Supreme Court. Subir became honorary treasurer in 2008 and performed his duties till July 2017. So he has completed nine years as an office bearer,” Ganguly said after working committee on Saturday.
Subir was not invited to the working committee, which led to the former Joint-Secretary writing a letter to Sourav Ganguly, which stated that the former Indian captain is also not eligible to hold the post.
Sourav did not comment on the matter and stated the fact that the decision was taken by the working committee and not him. Now, when Subir is removed from the CAB, it will be interesting to see his next step because he had an eye on the big fish, i.e. Sourav Ganguly and wanted him to get removed from the post of President of the Board.
As of now, there are no more voices against Sourav Ganguly being President of the board. He has already completed two years as the President of the board and has entered the third year. Apart from that, Ganguly is also an active media personality.
Apart from coming on television as a cricket expert, Sourav also commentates sometimes during ICC events. He was one of the members of the commentary team during ICC Champions Trophy. His name was selected by the ICC itself, along with few others former captains of various countries.
The accolades earned by Sourav Ganguly during his playing career are unquestionable, as he was the player who built Indian team at a time when the side was going through a tough phase. He gave players like Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and many other as their opportunities and these players proved to vital for team India.
Surely, raising voice against one of the successful captains of Indian cricket team is something which might not pay benefits.
