Khan had earlier stated that the 1983 World Cup win is probably one of the most exciting stories he has worked especially because as a schoolboy he wasn’t able to have an idea of the magnitude of that victory and how the victory changed the total cricketing culture in the country. More youngsters started taking up cricket seriously and now we can proudly say we have a world-beating team who has the ability to rule world cricket for many years to come.

“As a young schoolboy, when I watched India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup, I had no idea that from that day onwards, cricket in India will change forever. As a filmmaker, for me, the journey to that win, filled with raw energy and sheer passion of that young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. And it’s great to have Ranveer come on board to play Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else for the role, ever since I started finalising the script,” Kabir Khan said.
Ranveer Singh who is till now the only actor to get signed for the film said that it wouldn’t be easy to make the 1983 squad, as it was one of a kind.
“1983 ki team handle karna wasn’t easy, koshish karlo mushkil se milenge aise characters poori India mein,” Ranveer was quoted as saying to Pnkvilla during an interview.
