ICC in Search of Independent Female Director

The International Cricket Council (ICC) approved the introduction of an Independent female director as a part of the wide-ranging constitutional change which has been aimed at improving the global governance of the sport. As per the nuances, the candidate taking up the job will require an intense knowledge and interest in the sport combined with a substantial experience at the senior level in the commercial, voluntary or public environment.

As per rules, the women candidate must lead independently without any interference from the ICC and during her tenure she must not hold any official position at the office or perform any operational or executive duties for any members of the ICC or state, association or a member of any particular member.

ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar said it was a big development especially with the director being a female one.

“This is a key appointment to the ICC Board and adding another independent director – particularly a female – is an important step forward in improving our governance. We are open-minded about the expertise the successful candidate might bring the table but they must be a cricket enthusiast who complements the existing skills and experience already on our Board.”

The Director will be appointed to a two-year contract, but it may exceed up to 6 years depending on her performance.
