Real Madrid Manager Rafa Benitez has claimed that the club’s star defender Sergio Ramos will certainly not leave the club this summer and join Premier League giants Manchester United. Sergio Ramos transfer has been a subject of media speculation since a long time, after the defender and ignited the furore by declining the club’s contract extension offers. But since then much water has flown under the bridge and the La Liga side has nominated Ramos as their club captain after Iker Casillas’ departure.

Real Madrid were also interested in United’s goalkeeper David De Gea, but the Red Devils have clarified several times that they will not sell the custodian to Real unless defender Ramos is part of the deal.

Most recently Benitez was quoted by Sky Sports. He said: “For me, 100 per cent. I insist that it is clear for me and the club, Sergio will be here. Football is a curious world, but Ramos will be staying.

“I have a lot of respect for Louis van Gaal, but Sergio will be staying with us. He is our player, our captain. I would like to see him at the beginning of the season, because he’s a key player for us.”

When asked about De Gea, the Spanish manager said: “It’s very simple, De Gea is not our player so nothing to say about him.”

Now that Rafa Benitez has claimed that the 29-year-old defender will not leave the club, it is almost certain that United needs to find a new defender and also David De Gea will not join Real Madrid in this summer.
