The star West Indian batsman said that he will be out of competitive cricket for two to three months as he needs to clear out his back problem which has been troubling him for some time now.
Speaking after Jamaica Tallawahs’ loss 27-run loss to Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel in the Caribbean Premier League, Gayle said: I have a charity game on the second, but after that I will be out of cricket for two to three months. I am going to do a surgery on my back. So I need some time for recovery. Maybe December, before I actually get back in cricket as well. You have got to wish me luck with that surgery and then I will be back strong. Who knows, we will see what happens.
Earlier Gayle had problems with his back which left him out of the group stage match against UAE but later returned to the crucial quarter final clash against New Zealand by taking an injection.
Gayle’s miss would be huge blow to West Indies as they are slated to play a tri-series against Pakistan and Zimbabwe during the month of August-September. He is also slated to play for Melbourne Renegades in the 2016 Big Bash League later in the December.
