With the Ashes just about a few hours away, cricketing fans all over the world are preparing themselves for a war. Two powerhouses in the world of cricket in the name of England and Australia will give a news start to the age old rivalry tomorrow when they meet for the first Test at the Gabba, Brisbane.
Taking the opportunity, a few legendary English footballers tried to get themselves into the mood trying their hands out in cricket. Former Chelsea midfielder Frank lampard, Liverpool man Steven Gerrard, Manchester United’s Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand joined the party with veteran Gary Linekar at the sets of the UEFA Champiosn League talk show on BT Sport to display their cricketing skills.
It was a treat to watch for the fans to see these superstars come out of their forte and cope up with another sport which took birth in England. Frank Lampard ruled the game of cricket too like he did in his footballing days. The Chelsea number 8 was pin point with his bowling as he yorked Gary Linekar in the first delivery itself. Lampard went to take the willow in hand and hit a six only to get bowled by the iconic Paul Scholes in the very next delivery.
Steven Gerrard was the next to bat and it looked like cricket was not his cup of tea. The Anfield hero got hit on the head with the ball and it was fun to watch. The footballers enjoyed the cricketing session to the extreme and Rio Ferdinand probably did better commentary than some of the professional commentators.
Frank Lampard took to his official Facebook account to share the footage and also mentioned that the boys were rooting for Joe Root and his men in the tournament. The video might give the English cricketers a lift to see the icons of their country behind them.
