Ravichandran Ashwin has been India’s prime wicket-taker in Test cricket for almost a decade now and has been a major factor in India’s success at home in the longest format. Ashwin is on his way to become India’s most successful off-spinner as he has already picked up 300 Test wickets, just 117 wickets behind Harbhajan Singh. Ashwin made his Test debut in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

Since his debut six years ago, Ashwin has always been in prolific form at home and has hardly faced any failures at home. He has rapidly been racking up all the records with so much Test cricket being played in India. His away form has been a sign of worry for the Indian team, and the Indian team has been struggling in the spin department whenever the team plays abroad.

However, in another record Ashwin has now become the highest wicket-taker under any Indian captain. Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, Ashwin has now picked up 181 wickets while playing under Kohli. The pair went past the pair of Anil Kumble and Mohammed Azharuddin who had a tally of 179 wickets. Ashwin has achieved this feat in just 29 Test matches out of which 25 matches played at home.

Ashwin achieved this feat in the second Test match against Sri Lanka at NCA stadium in Nagpur in which he had already picked up three wickets with India just on the verge of taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. He also became the fastest bowler to pick up 300 wickets in Test match cricket in the second Test. He has done it in 54 Tests surpassing the great Denis Lillee who did it in 56 Tests.
