Manchester United’s highly rated midfielder Jesse Lingard is set to leave Old Trafford according to sources.

The 22 year old midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Derby County, where he scored two goals in 14 appearances.

Championship club Bristol City are reportedly set to bid their club record of £2.5 million for the English youth international.

Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill and director of football Keith Burt are said to be looking to strengthen the squad ahead of their return to the Championship this season.

Lingard has struggled to break into the first-team squad under United boss Louis van Gaal in the past year and it is thought that he could be allowed to leave Old Trafford.

Lingard has been at Carrington since 2009 and the youth product of United has made only 1 appearance for the Red Devils so far.

He was loaned four times in his career to Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton and Hove Albion and most recenty to Derby County.

The young talent also won FA Youth Cup for the Red Devils in 2011.

He is capped 14 times for different English youth set ups.

The midfilder was impressive in the pre-season friendly games for Manchester United recently which took place in the United States and fans recognised the player as an important part of their future. Fans will be very unhappy if the 22 year old leaves Old Trafford this season.
