India rode on the double-hundred of skipper Virat Kohli on the second morning of the third and final Test at Feroz Shah Kotla, as the Delhi-born batsman has joined the club of greats of gentleman’s game, in a bid to smash struck double-hundred in straight Test innings.

With the epic knock in Delhi following the hazy morning, Kohli became second Indian after Vinod Kohli and sixth overall player- to smash a double-century in consecutive Test innings.

The list includes England’s former batsman Wally Hammond, who achieved this feat twice in 1928 against Australia and followed by 1933 after thrashing New Zealand bowlers.

The former right-handed Kent-born batsman Hammond achieved the feat by dishing out the bowlers of Australia and the Black Caps.

In 1934, Australia legendary batsman Bon Bradman, who averaged 99.94 in 52 Tests, registered this feat in 1934 against England when he smashed double-century in both the innings.

Former Indian batsman Vinod Kambli registered this feat against two different oppositions against England and Zimbabwe in 1993.

The veteran Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara, who has been known for his brilliance, went on to become the fourth player in 2007 against Bangladesh.

In 2012, ex-Australian skipper, Michael Clarke marked the feat against South Africa.

Kohli made the latest star-entry against the Lions.

Interestingly, the 29-year-old batting sensation smashed his double-century after Nagpur Test when he was dismissed on 213.

Virat Kohli, who has been in sumptuous form by breaking record after another on Sunday (December 3), struck his sixth double-century to go past Don Bradman, who had smashed five double-hundred in 52 Tests.

Grabbing the headlines for his heroics, Kohli had made it easier for batting partners while scoring the bulk of runs, as he is enjoying the record-breaking year while ruling the roost with the willow-show.

In a bid to continue his rule, Kohli registered the milestone by taking on Dinesh Chandimal-led Lankans.

At lunch on day two the Test fixture in Delhi, dominant India was 500 for five in 117.5 overs, as Virat Kohli is batting on 225 off 266 balls.

The right-handed batsman has shouldered the responsibility whenever he came to bat for his national side owing to his impeccable skills. He smashed 23 boundaries while scoring at the strike-rate of 84.59 while making the Islanders toil hard on the field.
