The Red Devils had a torrid 2013-14 season as they were not able to qualify for the Champions League with a 7th place finish. They bought in Louis Van Gaal to replace David Moyes and made some smart buys in the transfer window. This propelled them to a 4th place finish in the 2014-15 season. But they still went trophy-less and left the fans disappointed in the whole of the season.
With the new season set to start this week, we have come out with this article. We will re-live the highs and lows of the previous season and try to understand what they will have to change if they want this season to be successful.
Highs

With no European commitments, Manchester United did not have too many high profile fixtures last season. They were not convincing in the Premier League either but produced some brilliant moments for the fans in tough games. The first big victory for the club was at the Emirates when they beat Arsenal 2-1 with Gibbs and Rooney scoring for the Red Devils.
Another game that will have given them a lot of happiness was the 3-0 victory against rivals Liverpool at home. They managed the double against Liverpool as they beat them 2-1 at Anfield. The home leg of the Manchester Derby was also a game to remember as the hosts ran away with the game with a score-line of 4-2 at the end of the game.
These games were not coming thick and fast United and they were able to give their best when needed. But they showed great character in some games which was the difference between the two teams at the end of the day.
Lows

United experienced some bad games specially during their Cup journeys. The biggest embarrassment for the club would have been the 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in the Capital One Cup early in the season. This game ended their chances of lifting one of the three they had a chance for. They started their campaign, with draws against Sunderland and Burnley after a loss to Swansea on the opening day.
They also lost to Leicester 5-3 away from home and lost the first Manchester Derby of the season. Swansea completed the double over United for the first time in their history and this was a very hard time for the supporters of the club. The latter half of the season also saw United bow down to Everton at the Goodison Park with a 3-0 loss.
All these games made sure that United would not lift a trophy in the season. It was the second consecutive season for the club without a trophy and for a club of its stature, United have to improve on their consistency.
The new signings of this summer will bring a lot of joy to the fans and they will want their club to start winning trophies again. They will want to be there playing with the best teams in Europe and will have to play far better than in the previous season if they want to lift any silverware this season.
