Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has stated that Alexis Sanchez moved to Arsenal subbing Liverpool for his wife’s desire to live in the capital of England.
Last season, when Barcelona wanted Luis Suarez from Liverpool. a prospect for a cash plus player deal was proposed by the two clubs. Reds wanted that Chilean wizard to replace their Urugayan talisman Suarez.
However, the swap deal did not go through as Liverpool lost Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75 million but Sanchez joined Premier League giants Arsenal for £35 million.
The Reds Chairman Thomas Werner talked about the reasons of Sanchez’s snubbing Liverpool to join Gunners to Liverpool Echo. Although, hid did not mention the Chiean international’s name, but it is quite clear that whom he was referring to.
“Every transaction is somewhat different from the next”, he said.
“Without mentioning any names, we were very focused on a player last year. We felt that we had an understanding but his wife wanted to live in London. None of these transfers are simple.”
Luis Suarez’s departure hit the Reds hard last season as they could not replace the superstar at Anfield. Successive injuries to the other striker Daniel Sturridge added extra woes for them as other center forwards Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini failed to find their goalscoring boots.
While Sanchez was a superhit at Emirates netting 16 times in League only with scoring another 9 in other cup competitions and won the FA Cup also.
