Premier League giants Arsenal FC are set to hijack their traditional rivals Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer deal for Olympique Lyonnais striker Clinton Njie, according to L’Equipe.
It was reported yesterday that the Cameroon international had confirmed the news via Instagram that he is all set to join the Spurs. Tottenham who have sold Roberto Soldado to Villarreal last night are looking forward to sign the player as a cover for their star English striker Harry Kane.
The 21-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane over the last few weeks, but there seemed to be some struggle regarding a transfer fee.
N’Jie has scored 6 goals from 11 apperances for his national team and is dubbed as the “Next Eto’o” due to similarities in playing style with the Cameroon legend.
N’jie featured mostly as a wide player for Olympique Lyon last season and scored 6 goals from 33 appearances for the French giants and helped them become runners up in Ligue 1 last season.
Arsenal are in search of quality striker who could add balance to their otherwise great squad. The Gunners have a dearth of strikers. Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck are the only two options for Arsene Wenger.
The club was linked with several strikers which include big names like Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette. But Lacazette signed a contract extension and the pursuit for Benzema has cooled down a bit.
Thus, Gunners are reportedly concentrating on hijacking Spurs’ target. It will be an interesting off the field battle between the two fierce North London rivals.
