Manchester City thump defening champions Chelsea in the second match of the Premier League to climb to the top of the level. Sergio Aguero gave Cityzens the lead in the first half. Club captain Vincent kompany increased the lead in the 75th minute. Midfielder Fernandinho took advantage of a sloppy defending from Chelsea and netted a brilliant third goal.
It was an exciting game overall as tempers rose often in the game.
After the game Jose Mourinho addressed the media and said: “They were the best team in the first half. In the second half everything changed and we were the best team.
City made defensive subs at 1-0 because we were dominating and threatening an equaliser.”
Mourinho had relplaced John Terry at half time and replaced him with youngster Kurt Zouma. The manager clarified to the press why he took such decision.
“Kurt Zouma was introduced at half-time because he is the quickest defender and he wanted to play with a higher line”, Mourinho opined.
The match witnessed several physical battles on the field as Diego Costa was brought down on the ground at the stroke of half time by Fernandinho who elbowed the striker while winning an aerial ball.
Mourinho added: “Fernandinho should have been sent off for elbowing Diego Costa shortly before half-time.”
Chelsea visits West Bromwich Albion next week for the third game of the season. They will look forward to secure their much elusive first win of the new season as they are currently struggling at the bottom of the league table.
