Andy Murray ended his 8 matches losing streak against the world no.1 and emerged victorious. The Brit defeated Novak Djokovic in a gruelling 3 sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) in a match which lasted for 3 hrs.

How Andy Murray was victorious?

Initially, both the players had a strong start to the match, but it was Murray who took the early break in the first set and was dictating play to the fullest. Andy Murray was off to a strong lead in the first set being 4-1 up. Djokovic didn’t make it any easier for the Brit as he saved 8 out of 10 break points. Although, Murray converted just 2 of his 10 breakpoints it was good enough for him to take the first set.

The World no.1 made a terrific comeback in the second set as he generally does. Once again there were instances where Andy Murray had chances to break the Serb’s serve in the second set but Djokovic was even more impressive saving 3 out of 4 break points and converted 2 of his 3 breakpoints. Murray, on the contrary, managed to save just 1 of his 4 breakpoints and lacked penetration in his groundstrokes in the second set. Djokovic captured the second set and it went on to the decider.

The Match went on to the decider and it seems the Serb had the momentum in the third set. In all their previous meetings, Murray lacked the mental strength to overcome the hurdle against the World no.1. It wasn’t the case this time around as the Brit stayed mentally strong. The first serve percentage for Novak Djokovic in the all-important third set was just 55% compared to Murray’s 70%. The Match was exactly won at the point where Andy Murray saved 9 out of 9 break points. Out of the 9 attempts, Djokovic couldn’t manage to break the Brit’s serve once. Murray broke Djokovic only once in the third set which was good enough for him to grab the final set and reign supreme at Montreal.

By this victory, Murray won his 11th ATP 1000 Masters title. Murray on his 5th attempt managed to beat Djokovic in the 2015 season. The Brit is now the new world no.2 sending Roger Federer to the no.3 position.
