Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Karim Benzema, with Real Madrid accepting an offer of £48million for the France striker, according to Rodney Marsh.

Arsenal had been linked heavily with the star striker throughout the transfer window and it seems that they have finally made a break-through.

Arsene Wenger is on the hunt for a top class frontman as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for Premier League titles. He wants to create competition for Olivier Giroud at the front of his attack line.

Many believe a striker is the missing piece in an otherwise strong Gunners team, with club legend Thierry Henry telling talkSPORT Arsenal can end their wait for a top flight title by signing Benzema this summer.

And, having monitored the 27-year-old all summer, Wenger may have finally landed his man, a reliable source has told Sports Bar regular Marsh.

He said: “I had a phone call from a mate of mine, and he’s been right on many things, and he said that he believes Real Madrid have accepted a bid somewhere in the region of £48million for Benzema from Arsenal.”

“In the past this guy has always been right, he’s never been wrong yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
