Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that only one 60 seconds conversation with Pedro was enough for him to sign him for Chelsea.
Mourinho became aware of the availability of the Spain forward on Monday and Chelsea signed him for £21m on Thursday, swooping swiftly for a player Manchester United had pursued around a month.
Chelsea had their worst start of the season in 17 years with just one point from two matches. They started with a 2-2 home draw against Swansea city and lost 3-0 against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Since then, they have made two reinforcements in their squad with left back Baba Rahman from Augsburg and Pedro from European champions Barcelona.
Mourinho described how he signed Pedro who had almost signed for rivals Manchester United.
“For me, it was one minute,” said Mourinho, before recalling the conversation.
Here is the conversation which Jose recalled:
Mourinho: “Is it true that you want to leave Barcelona?”
Pedro: “Yes, it’s true. I love it here. It’s my home, but it’s time for me to move.”
Mourinho: “Did you sign already for another club?”
Pedro: “Almost, but not yet. ‘Do you want to come here?”
Mourinho: “Yes, I want. I told people in the club ‘it’s over to you’.”
Mourinho also said after telling the press about the conversation, “I thought he would never leave Barcelona.”
