Australia skipper Steve Smith scored his third century of the ongoing Ashes to deny England as the fourth Test ended in a tame draw. Smith batted throughout the final day in Melbourne for 102 not out which came off 275 balls7 his third hundred of the series.

The tourists had got a glimmer of hope when David Warner and Shaun Marsh fell in the space of six runs to leave Australia 178-4, only 14 ahead but Smith and Mitchell Marsh shared an unbeaten stand of 85 runs to take the home side to 263-4  and 99 runs in front before the teams shook hands. Australia has already sealed the series by winning the first three games.

Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of Capetown Test:

An ankle injury has ruled Shikhar Dhawan out of the first Test against South Africa, scheduled to start on January 5 in Capetown. Dhawan had injured his ankle on Tuesday, the same evening when India skipper Virat Kohli hosted his wedding reception in Mumbai. The Times of India has reported that KL Rahul and Murali Vijay will open the innings in the series-opener.

Sushil Kumar qualifies for Commonwealth Games:

Double Olympic-medallist Sushil Kumar along with five other male wrestlers, on Saturday (December 30), sealed their spots next year’s Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.

Apart from Sushil (74kg), other freestyle grapplers who have qualified for the games are  Rahul Aware (57kg), Bajrang (65kg), Somveer (86kg), Mausam Khatri (97kg) and Sumit (125kg). The six freestyle wrestlers also qualified for next year’s Senior Asian Wrestling Championship to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Mumbai City FC thrash Delhi Dynamos 4-0.

Mumbai City FC piled more miseries on bottom-placed Delhi Dynamos, defeating them 4-0 in an ill-tempered clash at the Mumbai Football Arena on Friday to rise to the second spot in the table. Both the teams were reduced to ten even before the break with Delhi’s Matias Mirabaje and Mumbai City FC’s Sehnaj Singh receiving marching orders.

The hosts scored twice in each half with skipper Lucian Goian opening the scoring before Everton Santos, Thiago Santos and Balwant sealed a convincing win.

Novak Djokovic withdraws from Qatar Open:

Novak Djokovic’s participation has come under doubt after he withdrew from next week’s Qatar Open because of his ongoing elbow injury. The 12-time Grand Slam winner has been on the sidelines for the last six months and could not play in an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi on Friday when the elbow injury aggravated.

“Only when I’m 100% ready to play, I will be able to come back. I hope it will be soon,” said the Serbian.
