A series of batting collapses is the major focus for the Australian team management as World Cup looms.

While the Test team enjoyed a landslide over England in Ashes series, there is no certainty in the ODI combination ahead of the Gillette ODI series.

The England team knocked Australia out of last year’s Champions Trophy without a win, while India also dominated their home series last year 4-1.

Swashbuckling opener Aaron Finch admitted that Australia needs more batting stability, especially in middle stages.

We were probably losing too many wickets through that middle period of the game (in the Champions Trophy) and not allowing us a big platform, to lead into that last 10-15 overs. When we were playing in India a similar thing happened – we’d lose clumps of wickets,” Finch said.

Finch further revealed that ODI team’s principal focus is preparing for the ICC 2019 World Cup.

Being still 18 months out, there’s quite a lot of cricket to come before that World Cup, so I’m sure there’ll be a little bit of experimentation with the key seven, eight or nine of the squad going forward,” Finch stated.

Australia has dominated the limited-overs matches at home; however, Finch said their poor Champions Trophy campaign last year, also in England, had hurt. Two games got washed out, while England won the other.

There are a few scars there for the boys,” Finch concluded.

The 50-over series kicks off on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
