Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers’ press conference ahead of Reds’ clash against West Ham United is over.
Liverpool has 7 points from three games and will host West Ham United on Saturday who started the season brilliantly with a 2-0 away win against Arsenal but lost the next two matches against Leicester City and Bournemouth.
Here is what Rodgers said in the presser-
On being asked about Lazar Markovic’s loan deal to Fenerbahce, he said, “Markovic still has a future here.”
On being asked about Mario Balotelli who completed his loan deal to AC Milan, the Northern Irishman said, “It’s a good move for Mario. He goes to play and gets a season of playing football in his homeland.”
On being asked about 18-year-old new boy Joe Gomez, the Northen Irishman said, “Joe is a wonderful athlete and has also got a very good football brain. He has a very good personality.”
On the opposition West Ham, he said, “West Ham at home will be our toughest game of the four. They had an excellent result away (at Arsenal).”
He added, “If you want to be fighting at the top end of the table your home form is vital.”
Daniel Sturridge came back to light training after treatment from America and on being asked about his return Rodgers said,”There is no timeline. He’s come back from America. He looks well. We will take it a week on week. There’s no pressure.”
On his new look Liverpool team, he said, “The hunger has returned back into the team. That freshness and ability to play with no fear. New players here with new ambition.”
“There’s been a lot of work done on the training ground and in analysing in this room to change the mentality.”
On new right back Nathaniel Clyne, he said, “Clyne has been outstanding. He’s the best English right-back. He has slotted in with so much ease. He wants to improve himself.”
On experienced Lucas Leiva who was rumoured to be leaving Liverpool this summer, he said, “He brings a lot of experience. He came in the other night and did very well. He pressed the game well.”
He told Sky Sports journalists when being asked about transfer deadline day, “You won’t need to be set up around here on deadline day. We’ll be quiet.”
On Liverpool’s famous vulnerable defense which kept three back to back clean sheets in the three games so far, he said, “We’ve put an extra work, an extra focus in that. We’re doing extra sessions in any aspect of our defending.”
Rodgers also confirmed that there are no fresh injury updates from the squad that faced Arsenal on Monday. Henderson and Lallana are still doubts.
