Arsenal are finally active in the transfer market as media reports suggest that Arsene Wenger is in pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain duo Edinson Cavani and Adrien Rabiot and wants these players on the final hours of the transfer deadline day.
Daily Mail claims, that Arsenal is in talks with the Paris-based club over the transfers of their star striker and young central midfielder. Arsenal who are desperate to add a star striker to the squad has shifted their focus from Karim Benzema to Edinson Cavani. Also, they need a quality central midfielder as Jack Wilshere is injury prone and entire pressure is on Francis Coquelin.
Arsenal were initially linked with Real Madrid star striker Karim Benzema earlier in the transfer window but after the striker himself denied transfer talks the focus shifted from Benzema to Cavani. Even the Uruguayan striker was a long-term target of the London club and now it seems Arsene Wenger wants to speed up things to bolster his squad.
The Gunners also need a quality addition in their central midfield position. Their main midfielder Jack Wilshere is too injury prone and he has been already ruled out for 2 months in the new season. Spanish attacking midfielder Santi Cazorla is currently operating in that position. Though Cazorla is doing a fine job but is an under utilisation of his talent who can be lethal upfront. PSG’s Adrien Rabiot who had an impressive season last year is on Wenger’s radar who has always been a keen admirer of quality youngsters.
It will be a huge deal if Arsenal actually completes the signing of Edinson Cavani as it would possibly be the most expensive deadline day signing in the history of the game as well as the club.
It is now up to PSG if they actually want to sell one of their stars to a European rival in this transfer window. The club had initially refused to sell any of their players as they were in plans of restructuring their squad.
