The most sought after story of the summer transfer window was the David de Gea saga and it took a whole new direction on the transfer deadline day. Real Madrid and Manchester United seemed to agree on a transfer of David de Gea and it included de Gea’s Real Madrid counterpart Costa Rica international Keylor Navas swapping sides with the Spaniard goalkeeper plus 29 million pounds in cash.

But the drama was far from over as the deal did not go through because the transfer window shut and both sides blamed the other for the delay. It was later announced by FIFA that David de Gea will stay at Manchester United and Spanish LFP did not receive the paperwork from Real Madrid and the transfer will not be allowed to go through.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is still frustrated over the negotiation on the deal and blamed Manchester United for delaying the transfer process. He has stated that the English giants took eight hours to send back contracts to Los Blancos and hence the delay collapsed the deal.

Perez says that De Gea was set on the transfer and does not understand why United waited until so late to negotiate for the sale of the keeper.

“De Gea was very affected because he really wanted to come to Real Madrid,” Perez told Cadena Ser.

“At 13.30, Manchester United already had the contracts. We sent the contracts to Manchester United at 13.30 and they took eight hours until they sent back the papers.”

“We don’t understand why they took eight hours to see the contracts and we don’t understand that if they wanted to negotiate, they waited until the last moment.”

“Our relationship with Manchester United is good. [Iker] Casillas always had good words for De Gea.”

“We do not understand many things, but I’m not here to blame anyone. They [Manchester United] lack experience, because this same thing happened last year to [Fabio] Coentrao and Ander Herrera [with Athletic].”
