Out-of-favour India batsman and Hyderabad skipper Ambati Rayudu has been handed a two-match suspension by the BCCI for breaching the Code of Conduct during his side’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Karnataka on January 11.

“Mr Rayudu is barred from participating in the first two matches for Hyderabad in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy,” a BCCI release said.

“The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Mr Abhijit Deshmukh, Mr Ulhas Vithalrao Gandhe, and third umpire Mr Anil Dandekar. The BCCI is further looking into the role of Hyderabad Team Manager in this untoward incident,” it added.

Rayudu is charged for leading the protest after his team’s loss. Hyderabad players were demanding a super over after they finished two runs less than Karnataka’s total.

However, Karnataka was awarded two extra runs at the end of their innings after the on-field umpires failed to judge that fielder Mehdi Hasan had touched the boundary rope while fielding. The umpires had signalled two instead of four.

De Villiers had suffered the injury while taking Indian captain Virat Kohli’s catch in the first innings of the Johannesburg Test which concluded on January 27 after India clinched the match on penultimate day by 63 runs.

Premier League leaders Manchester City coughed up a club-record fee of $80 million to sign Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday. The club’s previous record fee was the £55m paid for Kevin de Bruyne in 2015. The 23-year-old came close to joining Manchester City in 2016 but the move eventually did not materialize.

The former France Under-21 International’s arrival takes City manager Pep Guardiola’s spending on defenders and a goalkeeper since the end of last season to a whopping £215.5m.
