Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in four sets to win the men’s singles title at the US Open played in last night. It was an excellent performance by Roger Federer who played some excellent Tennis, but Djokovic was too strong and won the US Open men’s single title for the 3rd title this season.
In the first set, the top seed held and then broke 2-1. Due to damp surface Djokovic suffered a worrying fall in the next game turning over his right ankle and bloodying his elbow in an attempt to change the direction. Federer came back well to retrieve the break back but Djokovic and broke back Federer again in the 7th game and eventually Djokovic won the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Djokovic saved five break points in an eight-minute game to go 1-1. Federer had set points but surrendered one with a wild forehand in an open court. Djokovic held after seven deuces and 15 minutes of tension. Federer allowed another set point to slip but converted on the fourth to level the game set 1-1. Federer won the second set 7-5.
In the third game, Djokovic broke Federer 2-1 but handed back the break to Federer to level the score at 2-2. The top seed saved two break points in the 8th game and handed Djokovic a 5-4 lead. Federer had two break points, but Djokovic had held his serve to win the third set 6-4.
In the fourth game, Djokovic broke Federer in the opening game of the fourth set and saved a break point to lead 4-2. Djokovic held his serve to lead 5-2, but Federer retrieved one break back as Djokovic served for the title. Djokovic won the fourth set 6-4 to win his 10th Major title.
