Louis van Gaal has suggested that he is building this Manchester United team for the next manager who would take charges of the club after the expiration of his current contract.
Manchester United take on Southampton in an important game week 6 clash on Sunday evening. Speaking ahead of the game, the Dutch manager suggested that the team is still on a work in progress and he is building the team for future.
Louis van Gaal joined the Red Devils last summer and has since then spend a huge some of money to get several players. He changed the core unit of the side and has built a squad according to his wishes. After finishing fourth last season, the team has so far done a commendable job but their performances never looked convincing.
Speaking to the media, Van Gaal said: “I believe I have a very good eye for young talent. I am a trainer-coach who believes in youth.
“When you see my career, you can see a lot of youngsters come through and when I’m not there, you have the guards of the club culture.
“At Barcelona, Xavi captain, Iniesta captain, Valdes captain. For 10 years, they were the backbone of the club and the culture. At Bayern Munich, it was the same with Muller, Alaba, Badstuber.
“Maybe when I am gone, Shaw shall be the guard of the culture. Or Januzaj. Or Martial, but first he has to speak the language!”
The club had signed many big names last summer like Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, etc, but none of the players lived up to the expectation. Thus, the manager had changed his policy and decided to invest heavily on youngsters like Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, etc.
On that Louis van Gaal commented: “I believe in that kind of culture. That is more or less an argument to come here. It is important to educate young players in the club’s culture.”
