Manchester United wanted to sign Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller at any cost according to super agent Giovanni Branchini.

During the summer transfer window the Red Devils were keen on acquiring the service of world class footballer Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich and apparently were ready to spend 100 million pounds, which would have been a world record transfer fee. But as Bayern were not ready their priced asset the deal never happened.

Now super agent Giovanni Branchini has claimed that the Red Devils were practically desperate to sign the player and were to get him at any cost.

Branchini was quoted saying: “Manchester United wanted Thomas Muller at all costs.

“I’ve spent days trying to explain Bayern Munich would never let him leave – so in the end they changed their mind.”

The agent further added: “English football is growing up very fast and it’s not good for Italian football.

“For example, it could be more and more complicated to buy not only the biggest stars like Neymar but the second or third level too.

“At this moment Sunderland or Aston Villa can spend as well as Juventus or Milan do, because of the TV rights.”

Manchester United made several changes this time in their squad from the previous season. They sold star players like Robin van Persie, Nani and Angel di Maria. Released on loan striker Radamel Falcao/

They did good business by bringing in players like Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The Red Devils wanted a striker and after they missed on signing Thomas Muller they finally roped French youngster Anthony Martial to their ranks on deadline day, a seemingly unproven 19-year-old from Monaco, splashing out an initial £36million on the striker, a fee that could rise as high as £58million with add-ons.

Martial has hit the ground running with the club, netting four times already since his big-money switch to Old Trafford.

Thomas Muller has also enjoyed a prolific start to the season, netting six times in seven Bundesliga outings, and twice in two appearances in the Champions League. His Champions League goals were exceptional and he is undoubtedly the best player in Pep Guardiola’s side.
